Italy primarily uses the Euro (€) for all transactions. Here are a few important money tips for your stay:
Card vs Cash:
Most places in Lake Como accept major credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard), but smaller vendors may prefer cash. It’s always a good idea to carry some euros for small purchases.
ATM Access:
ATMs are widely available in Italy, so you can withdraw cash at any time. However, check with your bank for any foreign transaction fees. You may want to make a note under ATMs that most have a daily withdrawal limit of €250-€500.
Currency Exchange:
You can exchange money either at Dili, Bali, or Milan if you need euros before heading to Lake Como. Based on experience, it is better to exchange money outside of Italy, as the exchange commission fee in Italy is approximately 20%, which is mandatory.
